Radium Signature Deep Cleansing & Extraction Facial
Clogged pores are caused by an accumulation of dead skin cells, sebum and pollutant trapped in the pores of your skin.
When a combination of sebum, acne bacteria, and dead skin cells get trapped in the pores, it may result in blackheads, whiteheads, and acne.
To find out if you have clogged pores, examine your skin in the mirror to see if you notice whiteheads and blackheads on the skin.
Facial extractions to clear clogged pores
How is facial extraction process like?
At Radium, our Signature Deep Cleansing & Extraction facial involves a thorough cleansing of the skin, followed by a EverGlow Radiance Scrub to dislodge and remove dead skin cells.
A hot steam will be applied on your face for a few minutes to soften the skin and open the pores. The therapist will use a sonic cleanser to remove dirt and stubborn clogs lodged deep in the pores that could not be removed with a facial scrub.
The next step involves using a magnifying lamp to closely inspect the skin to perform extraction on pores that are still clogged. Depending on how clogged your pores are, this extraction process can take up to 30 minutes to complete.
After the extraction process, the skin is likely to be inflamed and slightly red. We will massage your skin with a cold bar to soothe the skin and increase blood circulation to the rest of the face. A sheet mask will be applied to hydrate the skin and reduce skin redness.
Benefits of facial extraction
Even though it can be painful and uncomfortable, facial extractions are very important for the skin because:
EXTRACTIONS ARE GOOD FOR REMOVING WHITEHEADS AND BLACKHEADSÂ Blackheads and whiteheads are small comedones that are formed on the skin when sebum and dead skin cells get trapped in the hair follicles. The longer they stay in the pores, the harder it is to remove them.
EXTRACTIONS HELP TO CLEAR STUBBORN CLOGSÂ By dislodging the buildup caused by sebum and dirt, it helps to clear your skin and minimise the worsening of the condition, which may lead to formation of acne.
EXTRACTIONS HELP TO REDUCE ACNE INFLAMMATIONÂ Extraction is particularly useful for people who have large pimples, painful cystic acne or nodule that requires proper drainage.
EXTRACTIONS PREVENT WORSENING OF ACNEÂ By removing whiteheads, blackheads and small pimples, you are taking a proactive measure to clear your skin and prevent acne bacteria from forming in the pores, which may cause acne to form.
You can perform facial extraction in the comfort of your own home – only if you know exactly how to do it. You need to know which pimples should be left alone and which ones can be popped. Most importantly, you need to adopt a technique to extract the gunk from the skin without leaving any scars behind.
Doctors generally don’t recommend attempting to extract any pimples at home because the extraction tool may potentially spread bacteria to other parts of the face and worsen the existing pimple. If not done properly, the DIY extraction may create permanent scar on the face.
In our opinion, it is best to leave facial extraction to our nurse therapists who have been trained to adopt a technique to skillfully pick blackheads and whiteheads and drain pimples without damaging the surrounding skin.
Facial extraction is considered an aggressive treatment that may disrupt the skin and aggravate the acne condition. It is, therefore, best to do it every 6 to 8 weeks. This is also the time whiteheads and blackheads will take to build up in the pores before they cause further damage to the skin.
Unfortunately, no pain, no gain. You will likely experience some discomfort during the extraction process especially when the therapist tries to drain a cystic acne. Certain areas of the face such as the nose and under eyes may hurt more than other areas of the face.
Just inform the therapist when it becomes unbearable and they will move on to other areas of the face first.
