Fat Freeze
Cryolipolysis, commonly referred to as fat freezing, works by selectively freezing stubborn areas of fat tissue, without affecting the collagen, skin, and surrounding healthy tissue. It uses a controlled cooling mechanism to safely break down stubborn fat that don’t seem to go away regardless of all efforts through diet and exercise.
The treatment involves placing a probe on the targeted area, creating a vacuum to pull the excess skin and fatty tissue towards the inside of the probe. During the treatment, the internal temperature of the probe will be brought down to -5 to 5°C. The 40-minute exposure of such low temperature induces death of the subcutaneous fat cells, without affecting the superficial layer of the skin and surrounding tissue.
In the first few minutes of the treatment, you may feel some discomfort because of the intense cold and the suction by the probe(s). After 5 to 10 minutes, you should be able to adjust and get used to the temperature and the suction.Â
How Does Fat Freezing Work?
Fat freeze treatment works by selectively freezing the fat tissue, without affecting the collagen and other components of the skin. It uses a controlled cooling mechanism to safely break down stubborn fat that don’t seem to go away regardless of all efforts through diet and exercise.
The medical term for fat freeze treatment is ‘cryolipolysis‘. It consists of several probes that enables the localised reduction of fatty tissue to achieve a better body contour. When the probe is placed on the targeted area, it creates a vacuum to pull the excess skin and the fatty tissue towards the inside of the probe.
During the treatment session, the probe brings down the temperate of the skin and fat within the temperature range of -5 to 5°C. The exposure to the freezing temperature induces death of the subcutaneous fat cells, without affecting the superficial layer of the skin and the surrounding tissue.
Benefits
-
25% reduction of excess fat layer in treated area
-
Safe and effective treatment
-
Convenient non-surgical treatment with minimal downtime
-
Permanently lose body fat with consistent weight management
-
Short treatment time with minimal side effects
Best For
People with excess stubborn subcutaneous fatty tissue that don’t seem to go away despite diet and regular exercise.
After the assessment by the doctor or the nurse therapist, the targeted area will be demarcated using a marker.
A film of gel pad will be placed on the area to protect the superficial layer of the skin to prevent burns.
In the first few minutes of the treatment, you may feel uncomfortable because of the intense cold and the suction by the probe(s).
After 5 to 10 minutes into the treatment, you will likely adjust and get used to the temperature and the suction.
Each treatment cycle takes about 60 minutes to complete.
The post-treatment care is equally important to reap the maximum benefits of the fat freeze treatment.
Here at Radium Wellness Centre, our nurse therapist are trained to provide our proprietary post-treatment care.
This is so that the fat cells can be removed more quickly by your body and also to reduce any lumpiness or bruising on the skin that may occur during the treatment.
Over the next 4 to 6 weeks, your body will gradually remove the fat cells that have crystallised and destroyed by the treatment, reducing the overall circumference and appearance of the excess fat layer on your body.
You can expect to experience some or all of these mild side effects, such as:
- Temporary skin redness
- Numbness or dull pain at the treatment site
- Swelling
- Bruising
It is important to note that the effects of fat freezing treatment are temporary and will likely resolve after a day.

Cryolipolysis is not an effective way to reduce overall weight loss. It is particularly useful if you have tried diet and exercise but haven’t been able to get rid of the excess, stubborn fat bulges on certain areas of the body.
Only by incorporating fat freezing treatment with regular exercise and a strict diet, you will be able to achieve overall weight loss, including stubborn fat bulges.
It depends on several factors such as the amount of excess fat, your dietary habits and lifestyle. In general, we recommend between 1 and 3 sessions per area to see visible, long-lasting results.
